赤岩湯本家忍者屋敷－からくり引き戸の再現－

架空の忍者屋敷を想定し、そのからくりの一部分を抜き出して制作。博物館の説明展示や映画セットのような仮設構造物をイメージした。既存の建築物へ付加するように設置することで、その建物の機能を取り込み作品の一部とする。

作品は引き戸を開閉し内部をくぐり抜ける迷路のように構成される。この建具は連動していて、ある所を開けると別の場所が閉まる仕掛けとなっている。連動する建具からくりの動きを媒介として、現代の人々と忍者の行動様式に共通する、自己の行為と他者の行為の関係性を示す。

Akaiwa Yumotoke Ninja House

Based on the theme of the Agatsuma Ninja, this house showcases a world where real and imaginary ninja blur together. The border between fiction and reality is growing increasingly unclear with advances in technology. The ninja have become a symbol of this overlap between the real and the imagined. 

The room that once sheltered Dutch scholar Choei Takano can still be found in the Yumotoke House. It is assumed that from there, this house which had offered refuge to fugitives, etc., then became a place where the ninja passed down certain techniques in secret. For this exhibit, a back room on the first floor that had long been kept private is being opened to the public. For this occasion, we have imagined and replicated the karakuri, ninja-style escape mechanisms, that must have once been installed here.
